Week 7 The Doctorally Prepared Nurse: Community of Practice Be sure to align your role as the DNP-prepared nurse to the competencies identified in the AACN Essentials. DNP-prepared nurses have an obligation to advocate for enhanced patient experience in areas of access to healthcare services, cost-effectiveness or affordability, and alignment of services to quality and safety standards (Mullin, 2016). I have a commitment as a DNP-prepared nurse, to align my personal values and philosophy towards enhancing patient experience within my community or organization to support my advocacy goals. Two important issues in my organization First Issus: Increase in facility acquired pressure ulcers in our ventilator unit is one issue the organization is currently facing. A study by Cox, Edsberg, Koloms, et al., (2022) posits that patients residing in the intensive care units are extremely prone to developing pressure injuries due to their inherent immobility, hemodynamic instability, poor tissue perfusion and oxygenation, and other complexly interacting intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors. Pressure injury is a ‘localized injury and/or underlying tissue, usually over a bony prominence, resulting from sustained pressure. Second Issue: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), which is a type of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) that develops after more than 48 hours of mechanical ventilation . VAP is a common and serious problem in the intensive care unit that is associated with an increased risk of death
